VIP experience @ Lewis Black
Hard Rock Live did a good job overall with the whole VIP thing. I think the red carpet treatment and a separate entrance were nice perks. However, there were a few things that could have been improved.
First, there should have been a provision for VIPs to enter a bit earlier since they had to go to a separate room for dinner. Nobody wants to be in the middle of their meal when the show starts. We were not informed about the separate entrance and had to be directed to the VIP line from the main entrance.
Second, there should be tables and chairs for guests to sit and eat. It's not quite VIP treatment to stand and eat a full course meal at a cocktail table. With four in my party, we could barely fit the four plates on the table top. The food was great for the price, but the experience didn't feel very VIP with the standing and plasticware.
In the future, there should be clearer directions on the ticket for using the VIP entrance, an earlier entry time, and provisions for a sit-down dinner. While the buffet style was fine, not being able to sit down and use real silverware fell short of the VIP standard.
Madigan Great, Chandler Center for the Arts sucked
The show didn't start until 9:05, over 20 minutes late from the scheduled 8:00 time. Throughout the performance, people could be heard asking each other about the sound quality. We feel like we missed out on about 2/3 of the performance due to the awful sound system. Despite the issues, Kathleen was amazing as always. The sound system was horrendous for such a beautiful venue. We have decided to never return to that place due to the late start and poor sound quality.
Sound was terrible. Great view, but not worth it for deaf-only performances by mimes. In this technological age, there is no excuse for such a poor sound system.
